| | | Jerry Blom, age 51, of rural Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Greg Timmer and Rev. Roger Sparks officiating.
Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be Friday, December 14, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. all at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Jerry Blom was born on August 25, 1956, in Luverne, Minneosta. He is the son of John and Tillie (Vlastuin) Blom. He lived his youth in Luverne, Minnesota and Rock Valley, Iowa. He attended the Rock Valley Public School.
He was united in marriage to Sheryl Jane Hibma of Sheldon, Iowa, on May 20, 1988, in Sheldon. They lived in Doon, Iowa for 16 years, and Sheldon for 3 years. Jerry was a farmer, trucker, welder and machinist. At the present time he was working for Demco Manufacturing in Boyden, Iowa, and farming.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his sons and friends. He also enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.
Jerry was a former member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa, and presently a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
He struggled with his fight against depression and lost the battle on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. In his death he gave life to others by being an organ donor.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Sheryl Blom of rural Sheldon, IA; two sons: Stephen James Blom and Jason Lee Blom, both at home in rural Sheldon, IA; his parents: John and Tillie Blom of Rock Valley, IA; two brothers: Clifford Blom of Doon, IA, Ervin and wife Elaine Blom of Rock Valley, IA; one sister: Marcene and husband Dwayne Klarenbeek of Inwood, IA; his father-in-law: Gerrit Hibma of Sheldon, IA; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: John and Elizabeth Vlastuin; paternal grandparents: Cornelius and Marie Blom.
