Peter Menage age 85, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 1:30 P.M. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley. Rev. Scott Meyer officiating.

Burial in the Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton, Iowa. Military Service by the Ashton American Legion.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 23, from 1:00 to 8:30 P.M. with the family present from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Peter Menage was born on April 5, 1923, in Ashton, Iowa. He was the son of Jake and Hattie (Houwen) Menage. He lived his youth in Ashton, Rock Rapids and Sibley, Iowa. He attended school in Ashton and Sibley. He entered the U.S. Army in January of 1943 and was honorably discharge in April of 1946. During his tour of duty, he served in New Guinea, as a military policeman, where he guarded prisoners of war.
He was united in marriage to Leona Muhlenbruch of Sibley, Iowa, on May 18, 1952, in Sibley, at the Lutheran Church. They lived in Sibley, where Peter was a rural mail carrier, until he retired.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, where he was active and served on the church council. He was a member of the Ashton American Legion.
Peter enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling to military reunions, and music. He volunteered at the nursing homes, where he played his accordion and violin. He was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood and the community as a volunteer. He was very handy at fixing things and willing to help others. He enjoyed repairing bikes, putting them in his front yard with a sign that said “free bike” and making people happy.
He passed away on Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Osceola Community in Sibley, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Leona Menage of Sibley, IA; one son and daughter-in-law: Marvin Dean and Judy Menage of Sheldon, IA; one grandson: Pete and Crystal and their children: Nick, Taylor, Kenzi, and Lilly of Algona, IA; two brothers-in-law: Don Elzenga of Sibley, IA, Byron Lopau of Sibley, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: William Menage; five sisters: Tracy Schoolmeister, Esther Meister, Mabel Tuinstra, Evelyn Lopau, Loraine Elzenga.
