| | | Walter Smith, age 81, of Sheldon, Iowa, uncle of Bonnie Fangenberg of Archer, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 20, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 19, from 3-8 P.M. with the family present from
7-8 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Walter Parlier Smith was born on July 29, 1926, in Decatur, Nebraska. He was the son of Hobson F. and Florence E. (Kellogg) Smith. He lived his youth and attended school in Cherokee, Iowa. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, where he attained the rank of seaman first class, and was honorably discharged.
He married Alice Schweitzer of Columbus, Ohio, on September 8, 1946.
Walter lived in Columbus, Ohio, where he was a security guard at various places. He moved to Sheldon, Iowa, in 1998.
Walter was a jokester and he enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, playing the harmonica and guitar and singing old hymns and country songs.
He passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Linda and Vincent Priore of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda J. and Theron Terry of Columbus, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Inez Peterson of Washington Court House, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Earl Smith and Clyde Smith; two sisters: Leona Meyer and Viola Vanden Hull.
