Grace Van Meeteren was born on October 30, 1917, in Alton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Kryn and Grace (Van Den Berg) Dorsman. Her mother died 10 days after she was born. The first 3 years of her life she was taken care of by her Uncle Gerrit and Aunt Barbara Dorsman. She lived her youth in the Sheldon, Iowa, area, where she attended school and graduated from Sheldon High School.
She was united in marriage to Adrian Van Meeteren of Hospers, Iowa, on June 12, 1940, in Artesia, California. They lived in California where Adrian was a ship builder. In December of 1945, they moved to Sheldon where they owned and operated Dorsman Hatchery, and then they were custodians of Bethel Reformed Church for several years. Adrian then went to be head custodian of the high school and Grace was head cook at the Sheldon High School for 31 years, from 1957 to 1988, when she retired. Adrian passed away in 1976. Grace moved to the Oak Park Care Center in 2003.
She was a charter member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Grace enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling to California to visit her children. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her friends and she volunteered at Oak Park. She was queen of the Oak Park Marigold Red Hatters. She will be remembered for her smile that would lighten up the room, her jokester fun, and mischievousness. She was grandma to many.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Peter K. and Jackie Van Meeteren of Payson, AZ, Ruth A. Buysman of Melbourne, FL, Shirley J. and Glen Jongerius of Sheldon, IA, Ron A. and Norma Van Meeteren of Palm Springs, CA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother: Adrian Dorsman of Sheldon, IA; one sister: Jeannette Bensema of Seal Beach, CA.
