| | | Sophia M. Dykhuizen, age 99, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Rev. Marcus Moffitt officiating.
Burial in the Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, one hour prior to the funeral service.
The Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in charge of arrangements for Sophia Dykhuizen.
Sophia Marie Dykhuizen was born May 5, 1909, in Bunnik, Netherlands, to John and Antonia (Burggraaf) Vander Lee. She came to America with her family at the age of five. They settled on a farm near Alton, Iowa. They later moved to Nebraska, where they lived for three years. They then returned to the Boyden, Iowa, area.
She married Alfred Dykhuizen on February 6, 1940, at Newkirk, Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed west of Sheldon, Iowa, until 1969, when they moved into Sheldon. Mr. Dykhuizen died on May 21, 1974.
Sophia is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Dykhuizen of Sheldon, IA, also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, a son, Duane Dykhuizen, two brothers, Tunis and Simon Vander Lee, and a sister, Ann Jacobsma.
She resided at home until September 2004, when she moved to Oak Park Care Center of Sheldon, where she passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at the age of 99 years, 2 months and 29 days.
She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Sheldon.
In the past she had enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed listening to hymns and sermons on her Christian radio station.
