| | | Kenneth Johns, age 85, of Sibley, Iowa, formerly of Spencer, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Rev. Terry Simm officiating.
Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, Iowa.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. all at the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley.
Kenneth George Johns was born on November 27, 1923, in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Harvey B. and Katie (Kruger) Johns. He lived his youth in Sibley and Allendorf, Iowa, where he attended school and graduated from Sibley High School.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Irene Pearson of Allendorf, Iowa, on August 13, 1945, in Worthington, Minnesota. They lived in Lake Benton, Minnesota and then moved to Sibley where Kenneth worked for Mauch Service Station, drove a school bus for 19 years, and worked for Midwest Breeders for many years. In 1978, they moved to Spencer, Iowa, where Kenneth worked at Eaton Manufacturing as a machinist. He retired from Eaton in the spring of 1988.
Kenneth and Phyllis enjoyed traveling and wintering in Alamo, Texas. They traveled to Alaska for their 60th wedding anniversary.
Kenneth enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing pool and snooker. He was an avid outdoorsman. He made a lot of friends through his many activities. The most important part of his life was his family.
In October of 2008, they moved back to Sibley. In December, Kenneth became a resident at the Country View Manor, where he passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Phyllis of Sibley, IA; his children: Marcia and Robert Zylstra of Spirit Lake, IA, Randy and Kimberly Johns of Roland, IA, Cynthia and David Baker of Waukee, IA, Carol and Randy Rockman of Rushmore, MN; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister: Marlys and Johnny Fischer of Owatonna, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Larry Johns; one brother: Duane Johns.
