| | | Alfred D. Mouw, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Troy Van Beek officiating.
Burial will be prior to the Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Alfred Dale Mouw was born on July 23, 1924, in Orange City, Iowa. He was the son of Otto and Sarah (Lubbers) Mouw. He lived his youth and attended a country school in the Orange City area.
He was united in marriage to Aletha TePaske of Archer, Iowa, on October 12, 1945, at the Archer Reformed Church in Archer. They lived in Archer for two years before moving to Sheldon, Iowa, where they continued to live. Alfred worked as a carpenter and building contractor, in the Sheldon area, for 38 years, doing business as Mouw and Den Hartog Brothers Construction Company (Elmer and Eugene Den Hartog). Alfred’s specialty was finish work.
He was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Alfred enjoyed vegetable gardening and making furniture for his children and grandchildren. Alfred and Aletha enjoyed traveling. They wintered in Peoria, Arizona, for 22 years. On their 63rd Wedding Anniversary, they took their children and spouses on a Western Caribbean Cruise.
They moved to Fieldcrest in Sheldon on June 1, 2008.
He passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon.
Alfred will be remembered as a very special person. He was a teacher, friend and father to his children. He led, not only by talking, but also by example. His love for his wife, family, and God, was unconditional.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Aletha; his children: Kenneth W. and Harriet K. Mouw of Peoria, AZ, Cheryl D. and Bob Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA, Denise Van Zee of Sheldon, IA, Roger D. and Rochelle D. Mouw of Sheldon, IA; eleven grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph Mouw of Orange City, IA, Vernon and Mary Mouw of Orange City, IA; sister-in-law: Mrs. Henry (Violet) Mouw of Orange City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law: Randy Van Zee; brother: Henry Mouw; two sisters: Jenny Rowerdink and Wilmina Hofmeyer.
