| | | Clara Van Der Plas, age 92, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley. Rev. Roger Bouwman officiating.
Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Wednesday, prior to the Funeral Service from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M.
Clara Van Der Plas was born on December 31, 1916, in Sibley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Rink and Eggie (Harrsma) Bergsma. She lived her youth in Sibley, where she attended a country school.
She was united in marriage to Laurence Van Der Plas of Sibley, Iowa, on August 8, 1946, in Sibley. They lived in Prairie View and Long Island, Kansas, until 1954, when they moved to Orange City, Iowa, where they lived until 1989, when they moved to Sibley. Laurence passed away on October 24, 2002.
Clara and Laurence assisted with C.R.W.R.C. Disaster Relief across the country. They also assisted with being in charge of the Fare Share Program in Sibley.
Clara enjoyed crocheting, fishing and vegetable gardening. She loved to be around young people.
She passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Those left to cherish her memories are her honorary children: Conrad and Debbie Schiebout of Merrimack, NH; honorary grandchildren: Angela Schiebout of Beaverton, OR, and Ryan Schiebout of Penacook, NH; one twin sister: Frances Verdoorn of Sibley, IA; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Laurence; her parents; two sisters: Jeanette Jilderda and Lorraine Verdoorn; one brother: Andrew Bergsma.
