Christina Jacobsma, age 94, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Sibley Christian Reformed Church in Sibley. Rev. Roger Bouwman officiating.

Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.


Christina Jacobsma was born on June 30, 1914, in Orange City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Sip and Annie (Van Gelder) Starkenburg. She lived her youth in Orange City, until she was two years old and then moved with her family to a farm south of Sibley, Iowa, where she attended a country school.
She was united in marriage to Otto Jacobsma of Sheldon, Iowa, on December 18, 1934, on a farm near Sibley. They lived on a farm east of Sibley for three years and then moved west of Sibley, where they lived on a farm, until they retired in 1966, and moved into Sibley. Otto passed away on December 1, 1969. Christina continued to live in Sibley and took care of Mrs. Bartelson. She later worked at the hospital in Sibley for 24 years, where she became the supervisor of housekeeping. She retired at age 73.
She was a member of the Sibley Christian Reformed Church since she was two years old, where she played the piano, taught Sunday School, and attended Ladies Aid.
Christina enjoyed reading and visiting with family and friends.
She passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Sidney Jacobsma of Alton, IA, Patricia McDonald of Sheldon, IA, Sharlene and husband Dennis Hohbach of Sioux City, IA, Terril Jacobsma of Sioux City, IA; two grandchildren: Scott Teeselink of Rock Valley, IA, Rhonda and husband Barry Mordick of Sheldon, IA; one great-grandson: Nickolas Mordick of Sheldon, IA; one brother: Rich and wife Effie Starkenburg of Sibley, IA; 5 sisters-in-law: Marie Starkenburg of Worthington, MN, Effie Jacobsma of Sibley, IA, Pearl Jacobsma of Sibley, IA, Leona Jacobsma of Sanborn, IA, Anna Mae Hargens of Sibley, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Otto; her daughter: Shirley Carol Jacobsma (18 months old); 2 sisters: Ollie Van Iperen and Emma Starkenburg; 3 brothers: Art Starkenburg, Ed Starkenburg, John Starkenburg.
