| | | James “Jim” Oldenkamp, age 74, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at his home in Sibley.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Sibley. Rev. Doug Noonkester officiating.
Burial in the Baker Township Cemetery in Melvin, Iowa.
Visitation will be Friday, September 11, from noon to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.
James “Jim” Arthur Oldenkamp was born on August 31, 1935, near Sanborn, Iowa. He was the son of John G. and Anna (Vlaming) Oldenkamp. He lived his youth in the Sanborn, area, and attended area country schools and the Sanborn Christian Grade School, where he graduated from the 8th grade.
He was united in marriage to Laura M. Siedsma of Melvin, Iowa, on January 22, 1960, in Woodstock, Illinois. They lived and farmed in rural Archer, Iowa, until August 31, 1996, when he retired. They lived in Winona, Eunice, and Maryville, Missouri, and Worthington, Minnesota, before moving to Geddes, South Dakota, to be near their daughter. In July of 2009, they moved to Sibley, Iowa.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Sibley.
Jim was a handyman. He enjoyed fixing anything. When he lived in Archer, Iowa, he enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed fishing at Silver Lake in Lake Park, Iowa, and up north in Minnesota.
Jim was very outgoing, he loved to visit and he took a genuine interest in the people he met. He adored his grandchildren and he will be remembered as a loving husband and father, and grandfather.
He passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at his home in Sibley.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Laura Oldenkamp of Sibley, IA; his children: Kevin and Kristen Oldenkamp of Austin, MN, and their children: Kelsey and Kassidy; Kelly Oldenkamp of Lakeville, MN, and his children: Caresse, Elisha and Tanner; Vonda and Chad Clements of Rowlett, TX, and their children: Cody, Kayloni, and Chelsea; Stephanie and Jason Meyer of Warrenburg, MO, and daughter: Mykaila; Theresa and Matt Dykstra of Platte, South Dakota, and their children: David and Jonathan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Gilbert (Margaret) Oldenkamp.
