| | | Velma D. Miers, age 98, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Rev. Dale Lint officiating.
Burial at 4:30 P.M. Thursday, at Grand Junction Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 30, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with no family present, at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Velma Miers, daughter of William and Emma (Marks) Miers, was born August 28, 1911, in Perry, Iowa. She grew up and received her education at Mountain Lake, Minnesota. In her lifetime she lived in many areas, including Mountain Lake, Spencer, Iowa, where she worked up-town in a department store for many years, Ashton, Iowa, Bentonville, Arkansas and Noel, Missouri. She and her father moved to Ashton in 1961 and lived with her sister for twenty-six years. After the death of her sister, she moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa, where she lived for nineteen years and Bee Hive Homes for almost two years, the remainder of her life was spent at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, where she passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ashton.
She will be remembered as a very hard worker. She enjoyed playing cards, games, reading and she loved going to Harlingen, Texas, a short time each winter, to visit her sister.
Survivors include two nieces, Marie Pomrenke and Marjorie Kannegieter and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Sylvia Kannegieter and Violet Bomgaars.
