Emilia Hibma, age 74, of Harris, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Greg Dyk officiating.

Burial in the Union Township Cemetery in Harris, Iowa.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.

Emilia Hibma was born on December 12, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Rev. Bart and Hilda (Eason) Van Zyl. She lived her youth in Hollandale, Minnesota, and later moved to Newkirk, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where she graduated with a teaching degree.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Hibma of Harris, Iowa, on June 14, 1956, at the Newkirk Reformed Church. They lived in rural Harris, where she taught school and helped with farming. Emilia also worked at the Lake Park Nursing Home for 15 years and at Sathers in Round Lake, Minnesota, until she retired at age 65. Raymond passed away on January 21, 1996. Emilia continued to live on the farm in rural Harris.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa, where she was active with Calvinettes (Gems), Ladies Aid, and Bible Study. She enjoyed helping with Trash for Cash. She was involved with a Bible Study in Round Lake, Minnesota, and a member of the Red Hat Society. Emilia enjoyed crafts, cooking, reading, traveling and especially spending time with her family.
She passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Susan Rae Hibma of East Grand Forks, MN; Phil and Gail Hibma of Harris, IA, and their children: Jennifer, Sara, Jodi, and Amanda; Mark and Cindy Hibma of Harris, IA, and their children: Rebecca, Steven, and Matthew; Rachel and Ken Van Eps of East Grand Forks, MN, and their children: Lyndsey and husband Drew Leehan, Erin, Jaci, and Bethany; David and Sandy Hibma of Lake Park, IA, and their children: Brittany, Stacy, Anne, and Sam; two brothers: Harold Van Zyl of Fort Meyers, FL, Ray & Marilyn Van Zyl of Stillwater, MN; two sisters-in-law: Bernice Van Zyl of St. Paul, MN, Nelva Cunningham of Colorado Springs, CO; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her parents, two brothers, George and Fred, one sister, Marian.
