John William Gency

John William Gency, 89 of Clay, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness.

John was a loving father and grandfather, he was a retired coal miner and mine foreman with Allied Chemical Semet-Solvay Harewood Mines, Montgomery.
He was a World War II Veteran and First Sergeant in the US Army, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He also served at Fort Myers Virginia in the honor guard at Arlington National Cemetery; with Battery (C) Sixteenth Field Artillary Gray Horse Battery, which performed at Madison Square Gardens and other parade sites, with the Battery (A) 306th Field Artillary Battalion and Battery (A) 28th Field Artillary Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Maxine Osborne, mother and father Margaret Marie and John J. Gency; Sister, Freda L. Griffin; Grandson, James Donald "Jamie" Gency.

He is survived by one son, John Walter Gency (Sharon) of Elkview, WV;
one grandson, Greg (Vickie) Gency of Clay; and two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer Gency of Clay; three sisters, Dorothy Cleo Cobb of McKees Rocks, PA; Erma Baker of Carmichaels, PA; Peggy Goda of Lakewood, OH; one brother, James "Jimmy" Gency of Brunswick, OH

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, November 3, at the Wilson-Shamblin-Smith Funeral Home Clay with Rev. Lee Swor officiating. Burial will Follow in the Clay Memorial Gardens, Clay, WV. with military graveside rites conducted by the Clay VFW post 4419.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to say a special "thanks" to the CNA's, Nurses, and Staff for the care they provided, John during his stay at Laurel Nursing and Rahb Center
