| | | Dempsey E.” Buck” Coleman, 67, of Bomont, died Monday, October 26, 2009, at home surrounded by his family, along with care of Hospice Care of Charleston. Buck departed with a courageous battle with pneumonia, and a recent diagnosis of lung cancer.
He was born August 28, 1942, to the late Lonnie C. and Margaret E. (Reed) Coleman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Lucille, and three brothers, Lonnie, Charles, and Johnny.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Anna Mae (Townsend) Coleman,; children, Randy of Bomont, Kelly of Charleston, Wilbur (Cynthia) of Sissonville, Diane of Bomont, and Carrie (Gary Allen) of Clay; nine grandchildren, Angel, Jessica, Brittany, Jordan, James, Brian, Mika, Savanna, and Brody; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Brianna, Dylan, and Malory; sister, Geneva of Ohio and brother Jack, of Bomont.
He quit school as a young teenager to go to work to help support his family, whom he took pride in caring for till their deaths. Buck was a retired laborer from Evans Lumber Company in South Charleston with 36 years of service, from 1969 to 2005. He worked many years at the saw mill of Evans Lumber Company on the Kanawha /Clay County border as a laborer and truck driver until the mill was shut down, and brief periods of work prior to 1969 for Pierson Lumber Company in Clay. Buck loved to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible before his passing. He loved being around his grandchildren, giving them candy, and visiting his neighbors for coffee. On his 67th birthday, Buck enjoyed a grand adventure by going on his last trip to Canada fishing with his son, Wilbur and brother-in-law, Raymond. “Buck looked so happy catching all those fish…that he smiled when we returned home bigger than ever.” Buck was easily described as easy going, never saying a cross word, friendly, courageous. hard working,
devoted, caring, compassionate, and always helping others in need. Prior to coming home from the hospital Buck was saved by our Lord and Savior.
Psalm 46:1-2 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.
John 14:1-4 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my
Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Buck donated his body to WVU School of Medicine in Morgantown, WV, always stating, “Maybe my body will help others find a cure, or help the young doctors.” In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care of Charleston, or WV Health Right in Charleston to help others in need.
A memorial service will be held 4 P.M. to 9 P.M. Friday, November 13, 2009 at Burke Memorial Church, Camp Creek, WV.
