Torrett Donald Adams, 81, of Ivydale, went home to be with the Lord May 20, 2005, after a long illness.
He was born on August 21, 1923, to the late Ernest Dwight Adams and Lilly Edith Conley Adams. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Allen and Darrius Wayne Adams.
He graduated from Clay County High School, was an all star football player and four-year letterman, was an Army Veteran of World War II, having been a combat veteran of the South Pacific Theatre. He retired from Valley Camp
Coal Company, was a member of the UMWA, a member of the Big Otter Baptist Church, Ivydale, and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Irene Fields Adams of Ivydale; sons and daughters-in-law, Verlin Ray and Margaret Davis Adams of Ivydale, Garrett Don and Laura Crouse Adams of Ivydale; grandchildren,
Vicki Brackett, Debbie Childers, Tammy Pritt, Nova Adams, Mandi White and Matthew White; six great-grandchildren.
He will be loved and missed by all that knew him.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with Minister Rick Canfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams Family Cemetery, Ivydale, with military graveside rites conducted by Clay VFW Post 4419.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the funeral home.
