Greil, Joseph A. “Joe” Age 92 of Waterford died peacefully at home with family at his side, August 1, 2009. He was born near Lake Ivanhoe in Walworth County April 12, 1917, and was the son of the late Peter and Mathilda (nee. Mueller) Greil. The family later moved to the Greil farm in Waterford. On May 4, 1946 Joe married Florence A. Godsell at St. Martin’s Holy Assumption Church in St. Martin’s Wisconsin. Joe was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Waterford where he was the treasurer of the social program and an usher for many years. Joe was active in the 4-H as a swine leader and Superintendent of the Swine Department of the Racine County Fair from 1967 to 1975.
Survived by loving wife, Florence, of 63 years; five children: Mary Jo (Don Carlson) Greil of Memphis, Tenn. Tom (Nancy) Greil, Rita (Gene) Behr, Donna (Richard) Friemoth and Marsha (John) Napientek; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Further survived by Sisters: Helen (Ray) Wiza, Clara Lang and Pauline (Norman) Jung, sisters-in-law: Carol Jean Greil, Janice Greil, Mary Alice Greil and Min Greil. Also survived by Florence’s sisters and brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mathilda Greil, sisters: Gertrude, Anna and Emma;
brothers: Bill, Paul, Rudy and John and Larry Greil.
Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday August 5, 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church 307 South First Street, (Hwy 20) Waterford. Visitation Tuesday evening 5-8 PM in the funeral home or Wednesday 10 – 10:45 AM in church, Burial to follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Church or Racine County 4-H Endowment Fund.
