 | James A. Riffe, Sr. In Loving Memory 1938-2008 From a young age, Jim served his community in a number of different endeavors. A 1957 graduate of Narrows High School and a Fall 1960 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he served as the President and Manager of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows until his sudden and unexpected death on April 18th, 2008. Jim was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Board. He was a charter member of the Giles Lifesaving and Rescue Squad, and served in the Narrows Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years as an Assistant Captain, Chaplain, and a Purchasing Agent. Jim also served on the Giles County 911 Formation Committee and the New River Community College Board of Directors. He was the first president of the Narrows Business and Professional Association, a past-president of the Narrows Lions Club, a past-president of the Blue Ridge Funeral Directors Association, and served the Virginia Funeral Directors Association on the Legislative Committee, Disaster Response Committee, and on the Board of Directors. But he will best be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family and simply as, "Button," the nickname he lovingly earned from his grandson, Tyler. |  | James A. Riffe, Jr. General Manager/Licensed Funeral Director A 1984 graduate of Narrows High School and a 1988 graduate of Radford University, James returned home to Riffe's Funeral Service in 2002 after a successful career in broadcast production and marketing.
He earned an Associate's Degree from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 2004 and became a Virginia-licensed funeral service provider in December 2004. He received his West Virginia license in May 2005. Upon the sudden and unexpected death of his Dad in 2008, James was named General Manager. In addition to serving as a funeral director and embalmer, he also manages the business office and is a notary public.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Funeral Directors Association, representing the Blue Ridge District, is a Past-President of the Blue Ridge Funeral Directors Association, an active member of Glen Lyn Baptist Church, and serves on the board of the Narrows Athletic Fund, Inc.
James is also a freelance videographer, producer/director, and voiceover talent.
He and his wife, Joyce, a teacher at Narrows Elementary/Middle School, are the parents of one son, Tyler Andrew Riffe. |  | Allie Riffe Administration Allie grew up in Glen Lyn, Virginia and graduated from high school in Oakvale, West Virginia in 1959. She is a board-certified cosmetologist. Along with Jim, she attends first Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows, where she is a deacon and a member of Christian Women's Fellowship and the Chancel Choir. In her spare time she enjoys playing the piano and spending time with her grandson, Tyler. |  | Jimmy Neice Funeral Service Assistant Jimmy joined the Riffe's Funeral Service staff in January 2007 as a part-time assistant. He brings a wealth of experience in funeral service work and is very well known throughout Giles County. Jimmy is also a a part-time police officer in Narrows and is employed by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office as an animal control officer. He and his wife, Patty, live in Pembroke. |  | Benji Ratcliffe Funeral Service Assistant Benji joined our staff in September 2008 as a part-time funeral service assistant. He is also the Chief of Police in Narrows. A 1992 graduate of Giles High School, Benji served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps before returning home and beginning his law enforcement career with the Giles County Sheriff's Department. He and his wife, Missy, have three sons, Ty, Chaston and Christian. |
