The James Andrew Riffe Memorial Scholarship

In recognition and honor of his life of personal and professional service to thousands of families from across Southwest Virginia and beyond, Riffe’s Funeral Service, Inc. and the Riffe Family are offering a $500.00 scholarship in memory of James Andrew Riffe, Sr., to a graduating Narrows High School senior who plans to enroll at New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia.

Jim was a loyal Narrows Green Wave fan, putting in years of service during Friday night home football games working the concession stand on the visitor’s side of Ragsdale Field. In addition, he represented Giles County on the New River Community College Board of Directors from 1997 to 2005.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this scholarship is to support one Narrows High School graduate enrolling in New River Community College with $500.00 to be used toward tuition and fees.

CRITERIA:
The applicant must have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or better, be of good moral character with no demonstrated record of disciplinary action taken against him or her. It is strongly advised that the applicant be involved in outside community activities such as his or her Church, Boy Scouts, 4-H, etc., have a demonstrated financial need, and has already been accepted as a first-year student at New River Community College.

ADMINISTRATION:
The scholarship will be administered jointly by the Narrows High School Administration and a member of the management team of Riffe’s Funeral Service, Inc.

Narrows High School administration will determine whether or not the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. All decisions made are final.
