Darel G. Den Beste, age 70, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. Rev. Mark Kukkonen officiating.

Burial prior to the memorial service at 10:15 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008, from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Memorials will be given to Northwest Iowa Hospice and June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, Iowa, in lieu of flowers memorials may be given.

Son: Terry Den Beste of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota

Daughter: Suzie Mataloni and her husband Al of Urbandale, Iowa
Four Grandchildren: Alexandria DenBeste, David Mataloni, Allison Mataloni, Andrea Mataloni

Brothers: Alvin Den Beste of Sheldon, Iowa
Wayne and his wife Theresa Den Beste of Marquette, Michigan

Sister: Darlene Struyk of Sheldon, Iowa




Darel Gene DenBeste was born on December 26, 1937, in Ashton, Iowa. He was the son of John Henry and Dena (Groen) DenBeste. He lived his youth in Sibley, Iowa, where he attended school. He attended Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he received a bachelor’s degree in teaching. He attended Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota, where he received a master’s degree in library science.
He was united in marriage to JoAnn Ney of Sheldon, Iowa, on September 30, 1961, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They lived in Sioux Falls and Jackson, Minnesota, where Darel was a teacher. In 1977, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. Darel taught German, was the Librarian and Football Coach at South O’Brien. He retired in 2000. During the summers he painted houses, inside and out, and helped JoAnn with decorating houses.
Darel enjoyed playing golf. His greatest joy was his family. He also enjoyed going to his children’s and grandchildren’s school activities.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon.
Darel passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: JoAnn DenBeste of Sheldon, IA; son: Terry DenBeste and his daughter, Alexandria of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; daughter: Suzie and her husband Al Mataloni and their children, David, Allison, and Andrea of Urbandale, IA; two brothers: Alvin DenBeste of Sheldon, IA; Wayne and his wife Theresa DenBeste of Marquette, MI; one sister: Darlene Struyk of Sheldon, IA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brothers: Erwin Jerald and Jerald Henry.
