| | | Dean Barringer, age 66, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan. Rev. Douglas Harding officiating.
Burial in the Union Cemetery in Harris, Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 7, 2008, from 2:00 to 8:30 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.
Dean O’Dell Barringer was born on January 16, 1942, in Worthington, Minnesota. He was the son of Oral and Hazel (Snelson) Barringer. He lived his youth on a farm southwest of Harris, Iowa. He graduated from Harris High School in 1961. After graduating, Dean went into farming with his father and grandfather until he took over the farming from his father in 1983.
He was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandi” Wood of Worthington, Minnesota, on April 10, 1965, in Worthington. They made their home in Ocheyedan and continued to farm southwest of Harris and north of Ocheyedan until Dean retired after the harvest of 1998.
Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, especially trapping with his “buddy” Steve Loeschen. Dean also enjoyed being on his Ham Radio. He talked with people around the world and also used Morse code. He enjoyed long visits on the phone with his friends and family. For many years Dean enjoyed Drag Racing, driving himself, and later turning the driving honors over to his son, Michael. He also enjoyed going to his daughter, Shelley’s sporting events in high school, as well as, the phone calls he received from her. After Dean retired, his grandkids became a very big part of his life and were his pride and joy. He enjoyed playing with them and taking them to look for snakes in Grandpa’s yard.
He passed away on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Sandi of Ocheyedan, IA; his son: Michael (Mona) Barringer, granddaughter: Madison of Ocheyedan, IA; his daughter: Shelley (Jed) Schuck, grandsons: Dylan and Trey of Sibley, IA; his mother: Hazel Barringer of Ocheyedan, IA; one brother: Dale (Judy) Barringer of Holstein, IA; one nephew: Jay Barringer of Omaha, NE; two nieces: Nina (Bill) Nibbelink and family of Cedar Falls, IA, Lindy (Dave) Christensen and family of Cedar Rapids, IA; his mother-in-law: Rae Wood of Idaho Falls, ID; two stepbrothers: Joe Wood of Idaho Falls, ID, Robert (Deb) Wood and family of Bismark, ND; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law; maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents.
