| | | Marcus Kreykes, age 93, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.
Memorial services will be Monday, March 23, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Greg Timmer officiating.
Burial at 9:30 A.M. Monday, at the Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Marcus Kreykes was born on March 10, 1916, in Hospers, Iowa. He was the son of Johan and Ella (Aardema) Kreykes. He lived his youth in rural Sheldon, Iowa, where he attended Lynn Township country school.
He was united in marriage to Anna Groen of rural Newkirk, Iowa, on February 13, 1947, at the Newkirk Reformed Church. They lived and farmed southwest of Sheldon until 1981, when they retired and moved to Sheldon. They enjoyed traveling when they were able.
Marcus was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also served on the school board of the Sheldon Christian School.
Marcus and Anna moved to Fieldcrest in Sheldon in 2007. Anna moved to Prairie View in Sanborn, Iowa, in February of 2009 and Marcus moved a little later to be with Anna.
Marcus enjoyed riding bike, doing crossword puzzles, woodworking, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Anna; his children: Joellen and Norman Scholten of Sheldon, IA, and their children: Marcus and Stacy Scholten, Anna Scholten and son Logan, Nora Scholten and daughter Alivia; Marsha Kreykes of Sioux City, IA; Rachel and Darrel Raih of Sioux Center, IA, and their children: Amanda, Andrew, Darren and Danielle; in-laws: Marian Groen of Des Moines, IA, Gary Lyftogt of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant sons and 1 infant daughter; 3 sisters: Hattie Kreykes, Agnes (Gerrit) Van Surksum, Harriet (Henry) Kuiper; 4 brothers: Fred (Marge) Kreykes, John W. (Gertrude) Kreykes, Henry (Alice) Kreykes, Arie (Pearl) Kreykes; in-laws: Matilda and Lawrence Hyink, Rev. John Groen, Peter and “Mickie” Groen, Bev Lyftogt, Wilbur and Adeline Riemersma, Hattie and Joe Tensen, John and Anna Lyftogt.
