Carol Ruth Huffman was born January 15, 1943, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Solomon Fletcher and Marjorie Ellen Huffman. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1961. She received both a B.S. and an M.S. in elementary education from South Oregon College in Ashland, Oregon. She then taught school in Medford, Oregon, as well as for the Department of Defense Overseas Dependents Schools at Camp Zama, near Tokyo, Japan. In 1969, she returned to Sheldon and taught at the elementary school. Although maintaining her home in Sheldon, Carol spent several years in Minneapolis taking graduate courses and teaching at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. In 1992 she came home to Sheldon and taught until her retirement in 2007.
Carol went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday June 10, 2009, while being treated at a hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She was 66 years of age. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, two half-brothers, Harold and Oliver Huffman, and another brother, Soly, (S.F. Huffman, Jr.) She is survived by a half-sister, Frieda Rose, of Vancouver, Washington; two sisters-in-law: Judy Huffman of Sheldon, IA and Louise Huffman, of Ellensberg, WA; an aunt, Sarah Crowther, of Broken Arrow, OK; and several cousins as well as nieces and nephews.
At Carol’s request, her body has been donated to medical research. A memorial will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Andringa Funeral Home—Sheldon Funeral Service. Whether or not you are able to attend, you can submit a tribute or memory of Carol via email to cbh3@netzero.com and it will be read during the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either of the following two causes. (1) The Fire Bible: Student Edition—a project written and coordinated by Carol’s nephew to equip youth for Christian service. Every $10 gift makes a Fire Bible available to a student. For this project make checks payable to A/G Bible Alliance. (2) The purchase of books for the East Elementary School Library. For this project make checks payable to East Elementary School.
