| | | Henrietta Postma, age 93, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Memorial Services will be Monday, June 22, 2009, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Rev. Greg Timmer officiating.
Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon at 12:30 P.M. Monday, June 22, prior to the Memorial Service.
Visitation will be Friday, June 19, 2009, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
Memorials will be given to the Sheldon Christian School Foundation.
Henrietta Postma was born on February 12, 1916, on a farm near Alton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arie and Minnie (Beltman) Lucas. She attended a country school near Sanborn, Iowa for 2 years, and then attended Sheldon Public School, graduating in 1933, as the Valedictorian of her class. She attended and graduated from Sheldon Jr. College in 1935, and from Central College in Pella, Iowa, in 1937. Henrietta taught mathematics in Linn Grove, Iowa, Sac City, Iowa, Primghar, Iowa, where she was the Principal of the High School, and Neenah, Wisconsin. She later taught in Orange City Public School, Sheldon Public School and Sheldon Christian School.
She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Postma of Sheldon, Iowa, on August 30, 1946. They lived on a farm in rural Sheldon, where they raised their two sons. Bill passed away on March 27, 2006.
Henrietta was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa, where she taught Sunday School. She was also a School Board Member for the Sheldon Christian School.
Henrietta enjoyed tutoring children at the Sheldon Christian Grade School, vegetable and flower gardening, and playing the piano.
She passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sons and daughters-in-law: James W. and Via Postma of Des Moines, IA, Harold O. and Greta Postma of Clara City, MN; five grandchildren: Jonathan and wife Lora, Christopher and wife Amanda, Peter, Rebecca, and Matthew; two brothers: Howard Lucas of Sheldon, IA, Adrian and Carol Lucas of Ames, IA; one sister: Lois and Gerald Kreykes of Sheldon, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; two brothers: Emerson Lucas and Bill Lucas; one sister: Emma Pesaresi.
