| | | John Kamies Jr., age 78, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower officiating.
Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be Monday, October 5, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.
John Kamies Jr., was born on April 28, 1931, in Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of John Sr. and Nellie (Boer) Kamies. He lived his youth in Sheldon where he attended school. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy on November 17, 1948 and was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer on October 20, 1952.
He was united in marriage to Donna Pomerenke of Ashton, Iowa, on September 10, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashton. They lived in Sheldon where they started Kamies Plumbing and Heating in 1963. John and Donna owned and operated the business. John retired in 1999, due to health reasons.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, and taught Sunday School.
John loved to fish and take long walks around the lakes area. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren grow up and attend their activities.
In September of 2007, he became a resident of Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa, where he passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 55 years: Donna Kamies of Sheldon, IA; his four sons and daughters-in-law: Brad and Jan Kamies of Spencer, IA, Jeff and Cheryl Kamies of Atlantic, IA, Dave & Jolene Kamies of Sheldon, IA; Mark & Krisan Kamies of Nixa, MO; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Anna Mae and Gary Van Surksum of Sioux Falls, SD, Betty Marra of Hull, IA, Faye & Lyle Shaw of Hutchison, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law: Thane Marra and Clarence De Vries.
