| | | Gary D. Artist, 60, of East Indiana 46 died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Artist was a 1965 graduate of Brown County High School and a 1969 graduate of Indiana State University. He was a former industrial arts teacher at Brown County High School, was a selfemployed heavy equipment operator and most recently worked for Bartholomew County Solid Waste Authority.
He was a member of Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church and continued to have close ties with Columbus Free Methodist Church and Harmony Baptist Church in Brown County. He loved nature and the outdoors, spending time with friends and taking care of his farm, Ten-Buc-2, in Brown County.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Buterbaugh officiating. Calling will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rohner Family Life Center at the church and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday in the church sanctuary. Cremation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Ford Free Methodist Church or Harmony Baptist Church.

Born in Columbus May 15, 1947, Mr. Artist was the son of Arthur and Maye Moore Artist. He married Wanda J. Barnes Dougherty Oct. 16, 1999, at Ten-Buc-2 in Brown County.
Survivors include his wife; stepdaughters, Angie (Andy) Wiggins of Indianapolis and Tricia (Jim) Brookover of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Sarah Grace and Caroline Wiggins, Elizabeth Brookover and Baby Brookover, who will arrive in December; a brother, Marvin (Pam) Artist of Columbus; sisters, Lou Ann Butler of Nashville and Sue (Jerry) Anderson of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brotherin-law, James L. Butler.
