Robert P. Thompson, 82, of Fairlawn Drive died Monday, March 10, 2008, at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mr. Thompson owned Thompsonís Sporting Goods from 1952 to 1976. He was of the Protestant faith, served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of Columbus Gun Club and Amateur Trapshooting Association.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Calling will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday.
Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
After the service, a reception will be conducted at Bartholomew County Senior Center, 148 Lindsay St.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

Born in Columbus on July 13, 1925, Mr. Thompson was the son of Garland and Helen Patterson Thompson. He married Mary Sue Lanier Thompson on June 5, 1978.
Survivors include his wife; children, Roberta (Duane) Powell of Kempton, Cindy (Mark) Menser of Indianapolis and Melissa (Steven) Smith of Roachdale; grandchildren, Evan Menser, Courtney Smith, Robert Jacob Smith and Daniel Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Thompson; and sisters, Virginia Dietz and Ruth Cox.
