| | | Richard E. Barkes, 72, of Road 250N died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Barkes retired from Hoosier Parts and formerly worked at Quality Mill Supply. He attended Calvary Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene and was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Columbus Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Revs. Shane Rocker and Donald Humphrey officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Christiansburg Cemetery in Brown County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society.

Born in Columbus Dec. 21 1935, Mr. Barkes was the son of Dale and Mina Quillen Barkes. He married Marylou Seitz Sept. 24, 1967.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Todd (Wanda) Barkes of Brown County and Scott (Pam) Barkes of Columbus; a sister, Dorma (John) Cordry of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Sophia (Seth) Johnson, Nathan (JoAnna) Spalding, Ashley Morphew and Patrick and Laura Barkes; and greatgrandchildren, Paige Spalding and Quentin Frisbie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Hilderbrand.
