Robert Jess Manis, 96, of Albany, formerly of Columbus, died at 1:18 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Albany Health Care Center.
Mr. Manis was along-time plumber in the Columbus area and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #741 in Columbus and enjoyed traveling and playing pool.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Nathan D. Schockley officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 1:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Daugherty Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Born in Rogersville, Tenn. July 27, 1912, Mr. Manis was the son of Robert and Cynthia Bowling Manis. He married Florence Edell Pruitt January 12, 1935 and she preceded him in death in December 1965.
Survivors include a son, Randall Manis of Wise, Va.; a daughter, Margaret (Edgar) Mings of Columbus; grandchildren, William “Bill” (Janet) Mings of Scipio, Ronnie Mings of Greenwood, Steven (Teresa) Mings of Columbus, Vickie (Monty) Adams-McCord of Winchester, Sharon (Robert) Adams-Williams of Ridgeville, Rickie (Alma) Adams of Warner Robins, Ga., Teena (Jeff) Adams-McCoy of Ridgeville, Doyle Bruce Adams of Ridgeville, Elaine Hopkins-Arney of Ridgeville, Doyle Bohall and Annette (Gary) Bohall-Redkay of Bradenton, Fla.; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl (Darrell) Collins of Wise, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Manis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughters, Marion Alberta Bohall and Norma Jean Adams; granddaughters, Theresa Bohall-Sherrell, Diane Mings-Blair and April Mings-Haney; two brothers and five sisters.
