Boyd Abner, 85, of Road 450 South, died at 8 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Abner was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the battle at Northern Solomonss and was wounded at Bougainville in the Pacific. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He was an inspector at Reeves Pulley Co. and later Reliance Electric retiring in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling and gardening.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Lane Loman officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday.
Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
Full military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Free Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.

Born in Germantown, Ohio, August 7, 1924, Mr. Abner was the son of Pleas and Jannie Genter Abner. He married Rose M. Grimes Morris February 25, 1983.
Survivors include his wife; children, Judy (Steve) Weddell of Medora, Sally (Fred) Vogel of Seymour, Debbie (Robert) Ramey of North Vernon, Jeffrey Morris of North Vernon, Cynthia (Rodney) Brand of Indianapolis, Brian (Kimberly) Morris of Illinois and Pamela (Andrew) Stallings of Illinois; sisters, Sally (Mike) of Brownstown, Lida Jane of Bedford, Mary Lou (Kenny) of Columbus Dale of Bedford, Renotta (Larry) of Bedford and Patty of California; brothers, Harold (Clarise) of Leesville, Ernest (Lynn) of Florida, Paul (Ruby) of North Carolina and David (Mary) of Medora; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Abner was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Boyd Abner Jr.; an infant brother, Thomas Dewey; and brothers, Bob, Woody, John and Raymond.
