| | | Raymond R. “Popeye” Bennett, 89, of North Vernon, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Jennings Healthcare Center.
In early life, Mr. Bennett worked on the family farm, he retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 33 years of service.
He was a member of Apostolic Bible Church in Ogilville. An outdoorsman, Mr. Bennett enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and he also enjoyed traveling and watching wrestling.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Charles E. Kelley officiating.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to Apostolic Bible Church, 7291 South 300 West, Columbus, IN 47201.

Born in North Vernon August 6, 1922, Mr. Bennett was the son of Charles E. and Nellie E. Wolfinger Bennett. He married Fern M. Cash April 15, 1944.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years; children, Larry (Anna) Bennett of Russell Springs, KY, Michael (Eileen) Bennett of Columbus, William (Diane) Bennett of Santee, CA, Judy (Timothy) Fleenor of North Vernon and David Bennett (Judy Johnson) of Columbus; a sister, Helen Wynn of Columbus; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
