Charles E. King, 85, of Griffa Avenue, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. King was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II being honorably discharged on Dec. 6, 1945. He was in management and supervision with Delco Remy in Anderson and Arvin Industries in Seymour and retired in 1980 as production manager at Cosco, Inc. in Columbus. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Columbus and attended the Garden City Church of Christ.

He lived in Bradenton, Fla. From 1980 to 1990. He was a life member of the Columbus Elks Lodge, a member of Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge #249 and was a vested member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite. His hobbies included fishing, horseback riding, farming, construction and spending time with his family.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Revs. Don Fausnaugh and Edward L. Bennett officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from noon until service time Monday. Burial will be at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or Free Methodist Church.

A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Born Nov. 13, 1920, in North Vernon, Mr. King was the son of Alvin and Cora Dickey King; he married Della Mae Bowman Dec. 30, 1939.

Survivors include sons, Raymond (Betty) King of Columbus and Dale (Sue) King of Elizabethtown; daughter, Charlotte (Roger) Helt of Seymour; grandchildren, Danny Helt, Debra Rucker, Lisa Grissom, Carroll Secrest, Mark, Tim, Jason and Angela King; great-grandchildren, James, Brenda, Logan, Cassandra, Holden, Allie, Kennedy, Riley, Laramie, Shawn, Madison, Nathan, Adam and Jacob; great-great grandchildren, Corabeth, Charles, Lindsey, Molly, Makayla and Zachary; brother, Alvin (Rosie) King of Alexandria; sisters, Gladys (Marvin) Garrett and Norma (Alvin) Folson both of Anderson and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife on June 19, 2003; son, Charles E. King II; granddaughter, Lee Ann King; brother, George King and sisters, Connie Ball, Virginia Carter and Frances King.
