| | | Marvin "Dean" Axsom, 64, of Indiana 58, died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Axsom was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Cummins Engine Co. where he worked in the maintenance department for 30 years. He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association, an avid camper and horseback rider, sports enthusiast and IU fan. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding tractors.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastors Travis Jones and Darin Bowlen officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery near Norman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Cancer Society.

Born Jan. 11, 1942, in Bedford, Mr. Axsom was the son of Rev. Cecil Franklin and Altha Irene Ross Axsom Sr.
Survivors include his companion, Peggy J. Swafford of Columbus; sisters, Martha Carolyn (Pete) Deckard of Columbus and Wilma Jean (Dick) Kelley of Heltonville; many nieces and nephews including Kerry Axsom and Lila Jones, both of Norman, and David Axsom of Bloomington; and his companion's children, Teresa Swafford of Columbus and Pam (Mike) Baugh of Scipio, and granddaughter, Alysa Baugh.
Mr. Axsom was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rev. Herschel Dewey, Perry Lee, Marshall Leon, Cecil Franklin Jr. and Virgil Axsom; and a sister, Mary Alice Covey.
