Debra J. Pruitt, 53, of West Indiana 46, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Debra was employed 19 years in Chicago at the Department of Health & Human Services where she was a Head Start specialist. She was a graduate of Columbus North High School, received her bachelor's degree from Franklin College and her master's from Indiana University. She was a former kindergarten teacher at Kinder Korner, where she was known as Miss Debbie, and was former director of Head Start. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. David Burnett officiating. Calling will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her mother, of Columbus; a brother, Gary D. (Julie) Pruitt of Columbus; sisters, Kathy D. (Rocky) Ford of Columbus and Sandra L. (Ron) Gutzwiller of Kokomo; nieces, Mandy (Jeremy) Nye, Carly Pruitt and Jenna Pruitt; a nephew, Jacob Gutzwiller; and a great-niece, Audrey S. Nye. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Pruitt, on May 9, 2004.
