| | | Debra J. Pruitt, 53, of West Indiana 46, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Debra was employed 19 years in Chicago at the Department of Health & Human Services where she was a Head Start specialist. She was a graduate of Columbus North High School, received her bachelor's degree from Franklin College and her master's from Indiana University. She was a former kindergarten teacher at Kinder Korner, where she was known as Miss Debbie, and was former director of Head Start.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Rev. David Burnett officiating. Calling will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Debra was born in Columbus, April 3, 1956, the daughter of Bernard E. "Gene" and Audrey J. Crouch Pruitt.
Survivors include her mother, of Columbus; a brother, Gary D. (Julie) Pruitt of Columbus; sisters, Kathy D. (Rocky) Ford of Columbus and Sandra L. (Ron) Gutzwiller of Kokomo; nieces, Mandy (Jeremy) Nye, Carly Pruitt and Jenna Pruitt; a nephew, Jacob Gutzwiller; and a great-niece, Audrey S. Nye.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Pruitt, on May 9, 2004.
