William Wassmer, age 85 of Jasper passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday (April 11, 2011) in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born at Detroit, Michigan July 2, 1925 to Oscar and Anna (Riedmann) Wassmer. He married Marilyn Eskew August 27, 1946 in Rockville, Maryland.

Bill Wassmer was a WWII Navy Veteran – (Pharmacist’s Mate First class) He served on The United States LST OSS during the war. He received the following Military Awards – Victory Medal World War II – Europe-African-Middle-Eastern Area Service Ribbon – Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from Sear’s in 1988 . He also was a self-employed Electronic Technician.

He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church – Ireland Historical Society –Eagles Lodge # 3335, Huntingburg, Indiana – Life member of the V.F.W. Post # 673 – Jasper Knight of Columbus.

He was very active in the scouting program and was an Explorer Scout Leader and Scout Leader Post # 183 for Precious Blood from 1964-1970.

He was an avid Bridge player and belonged to the Jasper Duplicate Bridge Club.

Funeral services for William Wassmer will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (April 14, 2011) in Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call two hours before services on Thursday at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or to St. Mary’s Palliative Care program, 3700 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47750
