John Wallace Guthrie, age 81 of Jasper, passed away at 7:45am, Friday (May 4th 2012) at his home.

He was born in Loogootee, Indiana on August 27th, 1930 to Howard and Eldena (Webber) Guthrie. He married Judith Anne Burge on December 10th, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

John dedicated his life to the U.S. Military, having first served in the Army, then the U.S. Air Force, and then 22 years in the U.S. Navy from which he retired. He then worked for the State of Indiana Workforce Development Organization as a veterans representative, from which he also retired.

He was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church, the Celebration Singers, the American Legion Post #147, and the VFW Post #673,

John enjoyed singing, reading, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are 2 sisters, Mary Catherine Verbal and Charity H. Williams, and 2 brothers, William Joseph and Charles J. Guthrie

Funeral Services for John Wallace Guthrie will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (May 7th, 2012) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow at St John's Catholic Church Cemetery in Loogootee. Jasper VFW Post #673 will conduct military rites at church following the service.

Friends may call from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Sunday (May 6th, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Celebration Singers will perform a tribute to John Guthrie at 6:30pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Southern Care Hospice, or a favorite charity.
