| | | John Thomas Wright, 91, died on October 12, 2009 following a brief illness. The last surviving child of the late Edward and Susan Hall Wright, John was born in Troy on December 4, 1917. He was a member of the graduating class of 1936 of Cohoes High School and was a 40 year employee of the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring as a millwright foreman. A veteran of World War II, John served as a bandsman, with the Army Service Forces Band, "The Big Band", playing baritone saxophone, alto saxophone and the clarinet. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. John was a lover of the great outdoors and was an avid hunter. As an expert marksman, he always took a "clean shot". His friends often marveled at his skill and sense of direction while walking in the woods. He was often referred to as "The Flying Nun" for his ability to get from one mountain-top to another in very little time. John was a charter member and treasurer of the 36er’s, (the members Cohoes H.S., Class of 1936)
Husband of 68 years to Jo Wright; father of Tom (Cindy) Wright of Valatie and Vicki Crystal (Ed) Wright-Partyka of Otis, MA; grandfather of Rachel and uncle to several nieces and nephews.
