Byron N. Burns
1918 - 2009

Byron Neal Burns, 91, Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Heartland Hospital, St. Joseph. Byron was born March 20, 1918 in Fillmore, Missouri to William Franklin and Edith Pearl (Thorburn) Burns. Byron served in the Army and then returned to a truck driving job. He later married Virginia Hayward and went into business as co-owner and operator of Burns Farm Supply with his brother, Audie. He enjoyed trapshooting, woodworking and hunting. Byron was a member of the American Legion Dick Munkres Post #287, Savannah; Savannah Lodge #71; Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine Temple. His parents; brothers, Audie, Jack and Faye Burns; sister, Helen Knorr, preceded Byron in death. Survivors: wife, Virginia, of the home; son, Byron L. Burns and wife, Susan, Naperville, Illinois; grandchildren, Rebecca and Brett Burns; sisters-in-law, Mabel Burns; Ursala and Lyla Hayward and Helen Lott; brothers-in-law, George, Tom and Edward Hayward; and several nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life: 2:00 PM Monday, June 1, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Interment at Savannah, Missouri Cemetery. Public viewing after 12:00 PM Sunday. Masonic Rites by Savannah Lodge # 71 at 6 PM Sunday. Family will receive friends after the Masonic Rites until 8 PM. The family suggests memorials to Moila Shrine Temple or Andrew County Senior Center.
