1928 – 2009
Shirley Ann (Firlinger) Pawlak, Savannah, Missouri died Monday, June 22, 2009 on her 81st birthday. Shirley was born June 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to John, Sr. and Anne (Scortino) Firlinger. She met and married her husband, Edward, in Chicago on September 9, 1949. Edward and Shirley lived in California for 16 years, where they raised a family. They spent the next 40 years in Prescott, Arizona, then later moved to Cottonwood. After Cottonwood, they moved to St. Joseph and Savannah. Shirley loved to travel, play cards, read, bowl, golf, sew, cook and do crossword puzzles. She enjoyed latch hook, making things out of ceramics and stained glass. She was quite an athlete in school and in her Prescott years sang with the Sweet Adelines. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was mainly a homemaker, but at various times worked for a railroad, bank and even a family-owned hamburger stand. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Edward Pawlak; and son-in-law David Ridge. Surviving her are daughters, Kathy Ridge, Savannah, Missouri; Pat Carter, California; brother, John E. Firlinger, Jr., Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren, Katherine, Victoria and Edward, and his new wife, Angela; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life: 2:00 PM Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Interment at Isadora, Missouri Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving from 7 to 8 PM Friday. The family suggests memorials to Andrew County Meals On Wheels.
