1936 - 2009

James “Jim” Howard Thomas Young III, 73, St. Joseph, Missouri passed from this life unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2009. He was born on March 6, 1936 in St. Joseph to Earl and Dorthy (Hutchison) Young. Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956. He became a logger when he was 16 years old and cut and sold trees to Iowa & Missouri Valley Walnut Log Company. Jim rode parade horses at the American Royal in KC in the 60’s and early 70’s. In the 70’s he was part owner of a sprint car that raced at the Savannah Speedway. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid garage sale shopper. Jim married Sandra C. (Russell) on August 23, 1959. They were married for 40 years until her death on February 7, 2000. Jim was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Fryman; a sister, Ann Trauernicht; and his parents. Survivors: son, James Young; daughters, LaQuita Young and Coleen Beers; all of St. Joseph; 9 grandchildren; and18 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a niece, Teresa Trauernicht and numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Charles Frazer; son-in-law, Larry Fryman, and his “best friend” and constant companion, his dog Princess. JIM WILL BE SADLY MISSED BY HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Graveside Celebration of Life and Interment with Full Military Honors: 11 AM Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph.
