1928 – 2009

Bernice F. “Bunny” (Huckleberry) Meyer, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed from this life on Monday, September 21, 2009 in her home. Bunny was born September 22, 1928 in Maryville, Missouri the daughter of James and Rozella (Shipley) Huckleberry. Bunny worked as a surgical technician for over 25 years at the former Sisters Hospital then Heartland Hospital, St. Joseph. She then worked for Inter-Serv. Bunny married Paul Meyer on February 10, 1948 at the Conception Abbey at Conception Junction, Missouri and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1998. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Joseph and the church Alter Society. Bunny had a great love for her family and always put them first. She enjoyed life, people and she never met a stranger. Bunny was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rolle Huckleberry; a sister, Grace Fisher; and son-in-law, Jim Pauley. Survivors: daughters, Mary Nigh and husband, Albert, Savannah, MO; and Karen Pauley, Trenton, Missouri; companion and good friend, Sam Hitchens, Atchison, Kansas; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Shelly and Larry Porter, James and Melissa Loy, Karrie and Matt Gaunt, and Bryan and Jessica Nigh; 8 great grandchildren, Tasha Porter, Michael Brookman, Sydney Loy, Dakota Porter, Shawn and Shane Brookman, Hannah and Janessa Gaunt; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 AM Saturday, September 26, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1606 N. 2nd Street. Interment in Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, Missouri. Memorial donations to St. Mary Church Alter Society or masses. Public visitation after 10 AM Friday at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. A rosary will be recited at 6 PM Friday and the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 PM at the funeral home.
