1921-2009
Glendora Kennish Derr, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri passed from this life on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Heartland Hospital. She was born on a farm north of Mound City, Missouri on February 11, 1921 the daughter of Robert, Sr. and Genevieve (Means) Kennish. Glendora graduated from Mound City High School in 1938. During WWII she moved to Dearborn, Michigan and worked for the Ford Motor Company in the airplane motor plant record department. Glendora married Lynn Derr on January 29, 1943 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and he preceded her in death on April 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters, Kay Bruner and Darlene Scott. In 1945 she moved to St. Joseph. She was a member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church for 56 years and the Mary Martha Circle; Christian Women’s Fellowship and the youth group and bible school; a Past Parent-Teacher Association President of Edison Elementary School; past Worthy Matron of St. Joseph Chapter #198 and a present member of Areme Chapter #461; Order of Eastern Star; Carnegie Culture Club; Starlight Social Club; past member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #1289 and HY Chapter of PEO. Glendora was an Avon representative for 9 years. She taught religious education classes in the St. Joseph Public Schools for the City Council of Churches and retired from Farmland Soy Processing in August 1981 after 15 years. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, John and Darlene Derr, St. Joseph; a daughter, Patti Derr, Savannah, MO; a brother, Robert Kennish, Jr., Columbia, MO; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Timothy and Ranae Derr, Todd and Nicole Derr, Carrie Jo and Josh King, and Sarah Derr; 7 great grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin, Joshua, Kaitlyn and Kylee Derr, Madelynn and Makayla King; several nieces and nephews; and adopted by love and friendship, daughter, Theresa Schneider and grandchildren, Kristin and Philip Giffin, Laura and Danny Purcell, and Eric Schneider. Celebration of Life: 2 PM Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public viewing and family receiving hours 6-8 PM Monday. Memorial donations to Woodson Chapel Chrisitan Church.
