1958 – 2009

Susan Marie “Sue” (Becerra) Cockriel, 51, St. Joseph, Missouri passed unexpectedly from this life on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in her home. She was born May 23, 1958 in St. Joseph to Raymond and Barbara (McGaughey) Becerra. Sue was a 1976 graduate of Savannah High School and Northwest Community College in 1992. Sue married Kenneth Cockriel on June 30, 1989 in St. Joseph. She worked for Dr. Merlin Brown, MD for 25 years and at time of her death was the office manager at the Fine Foot Care Center, Kansas City, MO for Dr. Michael Fine, DPM. Sue was a member of The Turning Point Church of the Nazarene, Past President of Lovers Lane American Business Women and Past President of Missions, member of the Medical Group Manager’s in North Kansas City, Past Board Member of the Open Door Food Kitchen, Volunteer for the Juda House, My Brothers House, Safe Haven Cold Weather Shelter, the Habitat for Humantiy, Fun in the Son, and at one time the Dream Factory. Sue’s passion was for helping the homeless, the hungry, clothing the poor or cooking for large events at the Church or Church Camp. She also enjoyed organizing meals for the homeless men’s shelter and always made sure that every kid that wanted to go to camp got to go thru fund raising. She loved boating, spending time at the lake with her family and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Becerra, her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Robert Cahill; grandparents, Jule and Voylet McGaughey, and Pablo and Marcelina Becerra, and a stepdaughter, April Otto. Survivors: her husband, Kenneth Cockriel, son Jason Christopher Cockriel, both of the home; stepson, James Cockriel and stepdaughter, Autum Cockriel, both of Trenton, MO; a brother, James Cahill of the home; 4 grandchildren, Marshall, Jacqueline, Joseph Thomas and Issac; many aunts, uncles, cousins, some nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She also is survived by one sister in Christ, Joy Newby, Carmel, Indiana and a brother in Christ, Stan Steele, St. Joseph. Sue also had very special friends and family, Aunt Mary, Aunt Catherine, Aunt Sharon, Aunt Marie, Vicki, Lisa, Cindy, Kylee and Lexie, Janet, Judy, Connie and her best friends, Barb, Donna, Sandy, Ruby, Mary, Stan, Doc and Kevin. Celebration of Life: 11 AM Monday, October 5, 2009 at Turning Point Church of the Nazarene at 5211 Frederick Avenue, St. Joseph. Mrs. Cockriel will be cremated following the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph. Public viewing and family receiving hours 3 to 5 PM Sunday, Oct. 4th at Breit-Hawkins and Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, Missouri. Sue had requested in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Turning Point Church, the Juda House or the Open Door Food Kitchen.
