1921 – 2009
James R. “Jim” Campbell, 88, Savannah, Missouri passed from this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Savannah. He was born on August 4, 1921 in Thayer, Kansas to Roy and Goldie (Jeffers) Campbell. Jim served during WW II with the Merchant Marines from 1941 to 1946. Jim married Margaret (Diggs) on June 22, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. Jim was a Chief Clerk for Burlington Northern Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was of the Methodist faith and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Jim enjoyed sports, playing cards and pool. He had a great love and interest for his family. Survivors: his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Campbell, of the home; twin son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nora Campbell, Lathrop, MO, and twin daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry White, Bolckow, MO; a sister, Alma Stephens, Maryville, MO; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Milton Campbell, and a sister, Marjorie Scott. Celebration of Life: 10 AM Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Funeral Home, Savannah, MO. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Public viewing and family receiving hours 6-8 PM Friday. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
