Meyer Jr., George E.
Appleton,

Age 81, died unexpectedly at his Appleton home on Monday January 12, 2009. George was born September 12, 1927 in Appleton to the late George and Mathilda (Hameister) Meyer Sr., and has lived in Appleton for most of his life. On September 28, 1946, George was united in marriage to Evelyn DeGroat. The couple enjoyed over 60 years together until her death in March of 2007. George proudly served his country with the United States Army. He worked as an overhead crane operator for Fox Tractor for many years, and also was a self contracted plasterer for many years. With encouragement from his son, he was a Boy Scout leader and started Troop #176 at McKinley School. George loved to fish and go “Up North” to Crivitz. He enjoyed listening to his records while doing crafts in his basement. He also loved traveling and had an extensive donkey collection. George was a longtime member at First United Methodist Church in Appleton. He will be sadly missed by his 2 daughters: Vicki (Richard) Schabo, Appleton; and Debra (Lynn) Knutson, Shiocton. 2 sons: John (Linda) Meyer, Menasha, Ricky (Karen) Meyer, Appleton. 10 grandchildren: Billie, Jennifer, Melissa, Sherri, Brian, Dennis, David, Ashley, Timothy, and Lisa. 4 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Casey, Logan, and Jaydon; and his sister in law Sylvia Jeske. George was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a special niece Jackie Shelley. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am on Monday January 19, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Blanton officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Monday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for First United Methodist Church has been established. Dad was such a joy. We were all so blessed to have him in our lives. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He never went through a day without being in pain and he never complained, always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. The Lord took him to be with Him now and I know that his smile is as big as ever because he is with mom (the love of his life).
