Age 71, died peacefully with her family by her side Monday February 9, 2009, at Cherry Meadows Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. Claudia was born in Wausau on May 14, 1937 to the late Claude M. and Marie B. (Chaloupka) Maurer. After graduating high school in Wausau, Claudia attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee. After graduating from college with a degree in Art and English, she taught in Algoma, Milwaukee and at Catholic Central in Appleton. She retired from Catholic Central after more than 25 years of service. After retiring from Catholic Central she became the middle school Faith Formation Coordinator at St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was a member of the Appleton Altrusa Club, where she held various offices and most recently wrote the monthly newsletter. She love spending time with her children, grandchildren and her many friends. She enjoyed traveling, the theater, and using her extraordinary artistic ability in various mediums. Claudia was a faithful and active member at St. Pius X Catholic Church. She will be sadly missed by her children: Kathleen (Mark) Kinderman, Oshkosh; Michael (Kathy) Tassoul, Arizona; Patrick Tassoul, Kimberly; and Michelle (Ryan) Roth, California. 6 grandchildren: Kayla (Derek) Billingsley, Amanda and Jerame Tassoul, Rebecca Kinderman, and Madison and Dakota Roth. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11:30 am on Friday February 13, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St. Appleton, with Father Thomas Farrell officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
