“Bob”
Robert age 85, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born October 22, 1923 in Bear Creek, son of the late Henry and Mary (Matuszczak) Smith. He married Betty Knapp November 13, 1946, sharing 62 years together. He was employed by Riverside Paper Company for 37 years until he retired in 1986.
Bob served in the Army 2nd Div.23rd Infantry during WW II. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Bob will be remembered for his sensitivity and love for his family, sense of humor and compassion for others. His outgoing and warm personality, were qualities that helped him lead by example as he shared his many blessings with others.
He is survived by his wife Betty; a son: Gregory Smith, New London; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Connie and Tim Hurley, Appleton; Toni and Don Koch, Appleton; Janet and Bob Kirby, PA; a brother and sister-in-law: Henry and Sue Smith, Gresham; a sister: Marie Van Stippen, Appleton; 12 grandchildren: Jennifer Davis, Patrick Hurley, Andrew Polar, Emily Polar, Ben Bravick, Kara Tullberg, Goeffrey Smith, Samantha Smith, Joseph Paulus, Caroline Paulus, Lauren Kirby, Lindsay Kirby; 8 great grandchildren: Brayndon Davis, Aidan Davis, Caitlin Davis, Matthew Smith, Olivia Hovde, Dylan Alverson Alexia Tullberg and Aleah Tullberg. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Jo Ann Polar, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11:30 AM, Friday, March 20, 2009, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with Rev. Quinn Mann officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. A memorial Fund has been established.
