Appleton

Enid Schabow, age 90, went to meet the Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, after a short illness. Enid was born March 24, 1919 in Appleton to the late Walter and Milda (Guetschow) Horn. After graduating from Appleton High School, she worked at Courtney Woolen Mills. On September 6, 1941, Enid was united in marriage to Reverend Alvin Schabow at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Appleton. The couple enjoyed 41 years together until his death in November of 1982.

As a Reverends wife, Enid and her husband were called to several places – St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hyde, Michigan, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Algoma, where she worked at Gorz Vision Center and the Algoma Phamacy, then to Salem Lutheran Church in Nasewaupee in Door County. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and sang in the church choir. Enid was also a member of the Sweet Adelines. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Bob) Gardner, Appleton; son Glen (Mary) Schabow, Appleton; foster daughter Carol (Roger) Post, Luxemburg; daughter in law Susan (Steve) Younk, Sussex; 13 grandchildren: Lesha, Jason, and Chad Gardner, Rachelle Van Hammond, Jeremy (Nancy) and Adam Schabow, Ryan (Jennifer) and Kevin (Sarah) Schabow, Leah Younk, Paul (Kelley) Post, Julie (Kirk) Uslabar, Jean (Randy) Peischek, and Jenny Post. 14 great grandchildren: Kayla Krahn, Jakob, Bailey, Garrett, and Tyler Gardner, Carter and Weston Van Hammond, Nina and Jenna Schabow, Cole Schabow, Brendon and Jack Uslabar, Jacob and Alyssa Peischek; her brother Ronald (Marilyn) Sternagel, Appleton; brother in law George Franzke; sisters in law Helen (Gene) Brahm, Marion Merkel, Jean Sasman, Jean Karweick, and Ila Schabow; she is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend A. A. Schabow; a son Nathan Schabow; step father Otto Sternagel; brother Rueben Horn; 2 sisters: Ellen (Gene) Sedo and La Verne (Al) Mantei; her nephew Joseph Sternagel; brothers in law: Armin Schabow, George Merkel, Edwin Schabow, Gordon Schabow, Norman (Janie) Schabow, Orlo Sasman, and Ron Green; sisters in law Evelyn (Carl) Meitner and JoAnn Franzke.

A Funeral Service for Enid will take place at 11 am Friday May 15, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 530 W. Parkway Blvd., Appleton, with the Rev. Mark Henke officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and ManorCare for their kindness, care, and concern shown to Enid.
