Appleton

Age 85, passed away on June 27 at his home in Appleton, in the loving presence of family members. Ed was born February 7, 1924, in Green Bay. Ed being self employed all his life lived a life filled with variety, adventure, challenges, and love. He valued family and good friends, his companionship will be dearly missed. Ed served in the Navy during WWII and married his high school sweetheart La Verne Hazaert. He had many beloved friends and enjoyed his summers in Door County.

He is survived by his daughter Lynne (Joel Schuman) Gilson, Saugerties, NY; 2 sons: Charles E. (special friend Barb Starr) Gilson, Appleton, and Russell (Paula) Gilson, Appleton. Grandchildren Liv Leader, Chicago, Nels Leader, New York, Blessing Schuman, San Francisco, Jamie (Pat) Gill, Appleton, and great grand daughter Zoie Gill, (Daniel Leader New York, father to Liv and Nels). 2 sisters: Ruth (Ralph) Federman, Palm Beach, FL, and Lois (Howard) Hoelzel, Eau Claire. His sister in law Audrey (Len) Risse, Appleton; he is further survived by many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife La Verne the mother of his children, second wife Margaret M. Gilson, parents William and Mildred (Gilchrist) Gilson, brothers and sisters-in-law Robert (Patricia) Gilson, William (Lorranine) Gilson, and Ansel (Kathleen) Gilson.

Friends of the family are welcome to attend a celebration of Ed’s life on Tuesday, July 7th at his home located at 2455 W. Prospect Ave. Appleton, from 5 – 9 pm. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, De Pere. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Joseph Food Pantry in Appleton.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to our dear friends Dr. Hayan Yacoub, the staff at Affinity Health System, and Dr. Nancy Homburg, for the many caring years of health services.
