Appleton
Age 94, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home with family members at her side. She was born January 5, 1915, in Appleton to the late John and Margaret (Donet) Abendroth. Florence was a lifelong resident of Appleton and in 1934 she was united in marriage to Wilbert A. Popp. In 1945 they founded Popp Cement and Tile Products, Inc., d.b.a. Drainage Industries. Working together, they were able to combine running the business along with raising a family. They celebrated 50 years of marriage together and were blessed with 4 children – three sons and a daughter.
Survivors include 3 sons: Robert W. (Mary), Lincoln, California; Richard (Amy), Menasha; and Todd (Sally), Appleton; nine grandchildren: Robert Popp Jr., Thomas (Ruth) Popp, Theresa (Dan) Guinn, Kevin Popp, Nicole (Peter) Oldenburg, Anthony (Jamie) Popp, Dr. Deidre (Thomas) Rippl, Nicholas (Melanie) Popp, and Liza Popp; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Kohl, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert, and daughter, Jean; four brothers: Leonard, Eugene, Floyd, and Richard; three sisters: Irene, Margaret, and Ruth.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, November 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father David Belongea officiating. Friends may visit from 4-8 pm Thursday at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel, and directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for St. Joseph Catholic Church has been set up in her name.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Florence’s physicians, earlier Dr. Nancy Homburg and more recently Dr. Carter Noble; special caregiver June Buchanan; as well as the staff at Oakridge Gardens for their loving care.
