William E. "Red" Thomas, age 64, of 254 Fearnot Road, Sacramento, PA, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 at his home.

He was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1945 in Slatyfork, WV, a son of the late George H Thomas and the late Ruth M (Simmons) Thomas.

He was a graduate of Marlinton High School, Marlinton WV .

He had worked as a coal miner and electrician for Laurel Run Mining of West Virginia, IAC of Bear Valley, and most recently for West Point Mining, Mount Carmel.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Oakland, MD, the Independent Coal Miners Assoc., and the Sacramento Fire Company.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Carla J. Thomas, to whom he was married for 25 years.

He is also survived by three sons, James W Thomas of the Netherlands, James E Vance, Jr of Valley View, and Scott E McCrobie of Valley View; a grandson, Hunter James Vance of Valley View; two sisters, Hazel Sharp of Moorefield, WV, and Della Myers of Marlinton, WV; and a brother, George Lee Thomas of Slatyfork, WV.

The family received guests at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from Noon to 2 p.m. A viewing was also held from Noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
